Umaq refers to home in Paiwan language. A dwelling is a place Paiwan people share with their family, relatives, and ancestors. It is a place of birth as well as a place where the soul rests after death. In this production, Tjimur passes on and reinterprets the Paiwan legends and wisdom of life and death. It prompts audience members to begin their own quest for the tribal culture and creates in them an awareness and understanding of the Paiwan slate house.

REVIEWS
"It enjoyable and refreshing to see Tjimur’s new interpretation of traditional Paiwan dance in Umaq. The choreographer has simulated the essence of traditional Paiwan dance in modern form. The simulation of Umaq becomes a mirror for the audience to project their own imagination of traditional Paiwan culture. It provides clues for audience to bring alive their imagination and memories of Paiwan culture."
